Report: Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson breaks a bone in his foot

The Reds captain is set to spend an extended period on the sidelines after picking up another injury.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is set to spend an extended spell on the sidelines after breaking a bone in his foot, reports Sky Sports.

The midfielder reportedly suffered the injury while in training with the side, and could now be set to miss up to eight weeks as he recovers from the ailment.

Henderson was already recovering from a heel complaint that had seen him miss the Reds' last three games, with him having travelled to the USA this week to see a specialist about the issue.

The 25-year-old had returned to full training on Friday and could have been set to start against Norwich City on Sunday, but will now be out for an extended period as a result of the latest injury, reported by Sky Sports.

It will be a big blow for manager Brendan Rodgers, who is already under pressure after a series of poor performances from his side.

Henderson is a key player in his midfield, with his constant running something that pushes the side forward, and what was clearly missing from their ranks in the defeat to Manchester United last weekend.

How the Reds will cope without him is an interesting question, with their performances so far suggesting that they may continue to struggle during his extended absence.
