The Toon Army would love to see Mitrovic go toe-to-toe with Costa - although they'll have to wait.
Chelsea have claimed a 2-0 win over Arsenal with goals from Kurt Zouma and Eden Hazard proving the difference. However, that does not tell the story. Diego Costa was probably the key player for Chelsea in the game.
The Spanish international managed to work Gabriel of Arsenal into a frenzy and then, rather softly, Gabriel kicked out at Costa and saw red.
When Santi Cazorla later saw red Arsenal were down to nine men and the game was over.
Plenty of fans have been reacting to the ‘performance’ of Costa – including Newcastle United fans.
The Toon signed Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht this summer but they have not quite seen the best of him, more the notorious of him. He arrived at Newcastle with a reputation for being something of a hot-head and he has been sent off twice already in his short Newcastle career.
On Twitter Newcastle fans were not happy with the behaviour of Costa – suggesting that the Serbian international would have been sent off if he had done the same.
However, there is surely a lesson to be learned from this incident for Mitrovic. Costa was cute with his behaviour, subtle enough not to receive red but irritating enough to force the hand of your opponent.
Mitrovic should take notes and with Chelsea playing Newcastle next week he can ask him for himself, a clash Newcastle fans will relish with Mitrovic returning from his three-match suspension.
I'd like to see Mitrovic-Costa duel:))) That would be fun....and red card guarantee #CFCvAFC— Sasha Stosic (@Sleepwalker64) September 19, 2015
Mitrovic needs to spend a day with Diego Costa.— Marc Duffy (@MarcSDuffy) September 19, 2015
Mitrovic does what Costa does and he's off for sure. Refereeing inconsistency is killing the premier league!— Ash Dowie (@AshDowie) September 19, 2015
If Mitrovic did what Costa just did, he'd be shipped back to Serbia in a container by the FA before the half time whistle...— Roddy Graham (@MrRoddyGraham) September 19, 2015
How on earth has Costa not been sent off there. No one can tell me that Mitrovic would still be on the pitch had he done the same— Adam Stoker (@AdamStoker96) September 19, 2015
