Former Nottingham Forest loanee Gary Gardner comments on Ryan Mendes

The Cape Verde international has impressed at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest’s run of wins is over. They were defeated 2-1 by Middlesbrough this afternoon at the City Ground. In the early afternoon kick-off in the Championship this weekend they went down to 1-0 early on, after David Nugent took advantage of some poor defending from the Forest defence.

Matt Mills soon equalised to make it 1-1 after seven minutes.

After Daniel Ayala headed Boro back in front there is no denying that Forest had their chances to save a point.

Of course there was the Henri Lansbury penalty, saved by Dimi Konstantopoulos in the Boro goal. Then there was Ryan Mendes who could have squared the ball late on but forced a save instead late on.

The Lille loanee will be kicking himself now but he is certainly proving to be an impressive fixture in the Forest team since arriving from the French club prior to Transfer Deadline day.

His performance certainly seemed to impress a former Forest loanee. Gary Gardner impressed during his half season stint at Forest on loan from Aston Villa last term and Tweeted this about Mendes on Twitter:

Mendes has been earmarked as a potential replacement for Michail Antonio, who left for West Ham United this summer and he already has a fan in the Villa talent.

Here’s hoping he can carry on impressing, but learn to share.
