Joleon Lescott would have wanted to prove a point against ex-club West Brom on Saturday afternoon as he made his home debut for Aston Villa.
The 33-year-old took to Twitter to declare his honour at having completed the life-long dream of playing in his new side's colours at Villa Park - but also admitted he was gutted with the result.
And no wonder, with former side West Brom leaving Aston Villa with all three points - reversing the famous win Villa secured in the FA Cup last season that prompted a jubilant pitch invasion from their fans.
But it seems Villa supporters were just as gutted with the centre-back's display against his old side. Indeed, many don't quite see the argument for Lescott replacing Ciaran Clark, while his performance in this instance was heavily criticised.
Lescott's backpasses against West Brom, in particular, were scrutinised and some of the Aston Villa faithful are already questioning whether signing the 33-year-old was astute business.
What do the rest of the Villa fans make of Lescott after his display v West Brom? Here's what several said on Twitter after the game...
Thought Lescott was going to be a good signing, but not impressed so far. Slow, often out of position, misjudges situations.Prefer Clark #avfc— Christer (@Chrsmo) September 19, 2015
