Jordan Veretout has told The Birmingham Mail that he spoke to former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba before joining Aston Villa.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Premier League outfit Villa from French club Nantes in the summer transfer window.
Pogba, now at Italian champions Juventus, was on the books of United from 2009 to 2012, and Veretout has revealed that he sought the advice from his French compatriot before moving to the Premier League.
The former France Under-21 international has stated that he also spoke to Yaya Sanogo, who joined Dutch club Ajax on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
"I spoke to Paul Pogba and Yaya Sanogo and asked them both what it would be like for me to come to England,” Veretout told The Birmingham Mail.
"I asked them what it would be like to join Aston Villa. In the end though it was my choice. It’s all about doing a job for the coach and making a success of it.”
Veretout has made two appearances in the Premier League for Villa so far this season.
The Frenchman has created one chance, has a pass accuracy of 85% and has won four tackles.
Villa have not made a great start to the 2015-16 Premier League campaign and find themselves just two points above the relegation zone.
