Jamie Carragher reacts to Liverpool draw, highlights reasons for optimism

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with Bordeaux away from home in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Jamie Carragher has given his reaction on Kicca.com to Liverpool’s failure to win against Bordeaux away from home in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The Reds opened their 2015-16 Europa League Group B campaign with 1-1 draw at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux.

England international attacking midfielder Adam Lallana put visiting Liverpool in the lead in the 65th minute, but substitute Jussie restored parity for the home team in the 81st minute.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher was following the match and wrote on Kicca.com: “Liverpool should be pleased after last night’s draw in Bordeaux especially when you consider how many young players were on the pitch at the final whistle.

“18 year old Gomez ended up in the middle of a back 3, Rossiter playing central midfield for most of the game & then 2 other youngsters finishing the game in that role in Branagan & a youngster from Spain, you still have Jordan Ibe at a very young age also.

“So to go away in Europe & almost get the win speaks volumes for the work at the academy but also the courage of the manager to give young players a chance especially when the results of late have been disappointing.”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers included a number of fringe players in his starting line-up as well as Maghull-born midfielder Jordan Rossiter.

Fellow 18-year-old Pedro Chirivella joined Rossiter in midfield following an early leg injury to defender Kolo Toure.

Midfielder Cameron Brannagan, 19, made a second-half appearance for Liverpool, while teenagers Daniel Cleary and Connor Randall remained on the bench as unused substitutes.
