Celtic opened their Europa League campaign on Thursday evening, securing a 2-2 draw against Ajax of Amsterdam.
Nir Bitton opened the scoring for the Bhoys inside the opening 10 minutes, before Viktor Fischer finished off a lovely team move to draw Ajax level in the 24th minute.
Mikael Lustig put Ronny Deila’s men ahead just before the end of the first-half, but the Bhoys could not hold on to their lead, conceding in the final 10 minutes to Lasse Schone’s free-kick.
The point is a good one for Celtic, with the away game at Ajax considered one of the hardest ties they could have played. However, after leading for so long, it could be considered that they dropped points from a winnable position.
Aside from Bitton and Lustig impressing with their goals, Kris Commons also played excellently, as he registered both assists.
There was also a solid debut performance for Jozo Simunovic following his £3 million move to Parkhead, as reported by the Mail, although one defender was shocking for Deila’s side, with Emilio Izaguirre being sent off for two bookable offences.
