Dominic Matteo suggests Uwe Rosler still doesn’t know his best Leeds XI, criticises use of Lewis Cook

Leeds United hero Matteo believes Rosler is struggling as head coach.

Speaking to TV Yorkshire, Leeds hero Dominic Matteo has criticised Uwe Rosler, suggesting that he is still unaware of his best system, or best players, at Elland Road.

He said: “I think Uwe’s still got to find his best team, and his best system, and stick with it for a little bit. I think with people like Lewis Cook, when he’s your best player, let him play in his best position. I think Uwe’s now learnt enough, he’s had enough time to bed in and look at the players, so now he’s got to start picking his best team in the best positions.”

Rosler has started his career as Leeds head coach in steady, if slow form, winning just one of his opening seven Championship games. However, he has also only overseen one defeat, and it still appears as if the head coach is getting to know his players.

Matteo believes that Rosler has already spent enough time in charge at Elland Road to understand his players, and he wants to see them utilised in their best positions, in a system which suits them all.

So far, Rosler has persevered with a 4-3-3 system which hardly suits many of the Leeds players, and he made a big mistake in midweek with his selection.

Leeds lost to Ipswich by a 1-0 scoreline, and Lewis Cook - who Matteo believes is the Whites’ best player - was utilised out of position.

Rather than sitting in the holding midfield role, he was pushed out wide by Rosler, and he was ineffective as Leeds lost at home.

Matteo wants to see the best players used in their best positions, and thinking that Rosler has now learnt enough about his squad to understand the best roles, the former defender is keen to see changes made in the not too distant future.
