Celtic player ratings vs Ajax: Simunovic shines on debut

Celtic

We rate the performance of Celtic's players during their 2-2 draw against Ajax in the Europa League.

Craig Gordon - 6

The Celtic goalkeeper made one good save late on, but he may feel that he should have done more to stop Ajax's equaliser.

Mikael Lustig - 8

Lustig's goal was reward for a fine performance. He defended solidly against Ajax's attackers, and was a threat going forward.

Dedryck Boyata - 6

He hasn't made a particularly bright start to his Celtic career, but the powerful centre-back was solid enough.

Jozo Simunovic - 8

The new recruit did well on debut, and showed why Ronny Deila has brought him to Parkhead. He never looked flustered at the back, and showed some neat touches during the contest.

Emilio Izaguirre - 4

His red card, which was avoidable, ultimately cost his team the three points. He also didn't cover himself in glory for Ajax's first goal.

Scott Brown - 7

Worked hard in the middle, as always, and provided a good shield for his defence.

Nir Bitton - 8

His first goal was a fine strike, and it set the tone for a very good performance. He was composed on the ball, and kept the play ticking along nicely.

James Forrest - 6

A decent showing, even if Forrest didn't quite get into top gear.

Stefan Johansen - 5

After such an impressive campaign last term, Johansen still hasn't reached his best and he failed to find form against Ajax.

Kris Commons - 7

The attacking midfielder showed why Deila included him in his starting line-up. Commons' passing was excellent, and he created chances for his teammates throughout.

Leigh Griffiths - 6

Worked tirelessly up front, but couldn't find a goal to cap off his performance.
