The Bhoys started their 2015-16 Europa League campaign with a 2-2 draw with Ajax away from home at the Amsterdam ArenA in Amsterdam in Group A this evening.
Celtic took the lead in Amsterdam as early as the eighth minute, but Viktor Fischer restored parity for the hosts with a well-struck shot on 24 minutes.
Mikael Lustig headed home the Hoops three minutes before the half-time interval, but Lasse Schone made it 2-2 with a free kick in the 84th minute after Emilio Izaguirre was sent off for a second bookable offence.
After the match, Deila praised his players’ performance and is quoted as saying by BBC Sport: ”We have been through a tough period.
“This is a good start. Good defence and good organisation. The confidence will come. When we played 11 v 11, they didn't have too many chances.”
A point away from home is certainly a positive for Celtic, who will be looking to win all of their home games in the group and progress to the next round of the Europa League.
