Roberto Martinez coy on contract talks for John Stones

Roberto Martinez Press Conference Considered

Everton chief quiet on talk that Chelsea target John Stones could be offered a new deal.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez says they are in no rush to sort out a new deal for John Stones.

Stones' future at Everton was the subject of intense speculation over the summer, with Chelsea seeing four big-money bids for the defender turned down by the Merseyside club - as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Everton also rejected a transfer request from Stones, with the club adamant that they would not be forced into selling the England international.

The Mirror reported earlier this month Everton were ready to offer Stones a new deal in the wake of the transfer window closing, with Chelsea expected to make a fresh approach for the defender in January or next summer.

Stones only signed a new five-year deal last year and Martinez is remaining coy on suggestions that the highly-rated 21-year-old will be offered improved terms in the wake of Chelsea's interest in the player.

"No, there's nothing to announce there," Martinez told a press conference, covered by the Toffees' Twitter account, ahead of this weekend's game with Swansea when asked about a new deal for Stones.

Despite all the fervent speculation over his future, Stones has been an ever-present for Everton this season and starred in last weekend's 3-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea.
