A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning.
Divock Origi will be handed his first start up front after a cameo appearance in the defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, while Mamadou Sakho will start at the heart of the defence, and Rodgers insists Sakho is part of his plans for the future and wants to keep hold of the Frenchman.
He told reporters at his pre-match press conference, also quoted in the Liverpool Echo: “Mama is a player we want to keep.
“It’s been a difficult start for him. We won the first few games so it was difficult to change the team. He was working up his fitness levels.
“We were always going to need Mama after the international break. We want to extend his contract at the club and for sure he will play tomorrow night.”
Kolo Toure is expected to captain the side, with Alberto Moreno, Jordan Rossiter and Jordon Ibe also expected to start as the Reds look to get their European campaign off to a positive start, with many of the starting XI from the Premier League games left behind.
Adam Lallana has returned to the squad after a thigh injury kept him out of the past three games, and he has spoken of his frustration at missing the recent fixtures.
Lallana could be in line for a start himself after missing out against United and is quoted in the Liverpool Echo as saying that the side needs to collect some positive results in order to build confidence and momentum into their season.
He said: “It was so disappointing to miss the last couple of games because as a senior member of the team I have not been there to help.
“I’m delighted to be back and now I want to help the team get some positive results over the coming days.
“We’ve had a couple of bad results but that won’t continue. I’ve got an immense amount of confidence that results will turn.
