The former Hammers forward is also delighted with the performances star man Dimitri Payet has been turning in.
Bilic recently named the long-serving midfielder as captain, after Kevin Nolan left the club by mutual consent at the end of last month.
He has enjoyed a more creative role under Bilic as well, being encouraged to push further forward and get more involved in the side’s attacking plays, linking up well with Dimitri Payet for the opening goal in Monday night’s win over Newcastle United.
And Ashton says he likes that the new Hammers coaching team have given Noble more creative license than he has enjoyed previously.
“He’s been stuck in a defensive midfield role, playing out from the back, which is great, and he does that really well, but he’s actually a better player than that. I’m pleased he has been given the chance to get forward as much as possible.”
Dimitri Payet influence really encouraging
The former striker, now a pundit, has also been impressed by the impact Dimitri Payet has had on the side.
The French midfielder has made a flying start to his career with the Hammers; with his latest performance against Newcastle seeing him score both goals in the 2-0 win over the Magpies.
He also managed a goal in the defeat to Leicester City earlier in the campaign, and Ashton says it is important that he’s producing goals as well as scoring them.
“What has also been great has been Payet come in and he’s going to produce goals as well,” he added.
“When you’ve got one up front, you need your midfield players to produce goals and score goals and that’s really encouraging.”
