Brendan Rodgers confirms Divock Origi set to face Bordeaux

The Belgian striker will get his Reds debut in the Europa League tonight.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has stated that new Reds striker Divock Origi will get his first start for the club tonight in the Europa League clash against Bordeaux, as per The Daily Star.

The Belgium international joined the Anfield outfit last summer after impressive showings at the World Cup, but spent last term back at Lille on loan.

Having joined up with the Merseyside team this summer, Origi has been part of Rodgers’ first-team squad but not had a chance to show what he can do as yet in the Premier League.

However, the Northern Irish manager has confirmed that the sprightly forward will start the game against the Ligue 1 opposition.

"Divock will play tomorrow night and I’m sure he will show his attributes,” The Daily Star quote Rodgers as saying.

"It was my approach to this competition when we first came in, it’s a chance to play players who need games.

"Back then we finished top of the group and the aim is to do the same again.

"We just need to improve the performance level across the board. I want to see greater control and greater creativity.

"This is a tournament we want to do well in. You improve those stats by winning.”

Origi has found himself behind Christian Benteke in the pecking order so far this season, while Daniel Sturridge will surely also play ahead of the Belgian striker.

However, the most worrying thing for the young star is the fact that Danny Ings has been afforded action ahead of him, with the clash against Bordeaux an excellent opportunity for Origi to impress.

Liverpool have lost their last two Premier League games and as such the Reds faithful will be keen for victory tonight.
