109 Touches; 8 Tackles: Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll heavily involved in victory

Tom Carroll low quality

Tom Carroll made more touches than any other Tottenham player in their win over FK Qarabag.

Tom Carroll was heavily involved as Tottenham Hotspur recorded a 3-1 win over Azerbaijani side FK Qarabag.

The central midfielder was making his first start of the season, having played only 18 minutes of Premier League football as a substitute.

Carroll spent last season on loan at Swansea City, and is hopeful of earning a regular spot in Mauricio Pochettino's side.

His confident display in possession should push him into contention, and at the very least ensure a start in next week's Capital One Cup game with Arsenal.

Here is a look at his Europa League display by the numbers...

109 Touches: Carroll was in possession more than any other player on the pitch. Dele Alli by comparison had 62, with Toby Alderweireld the closest to him (81).

89 Passes: Likewise no other player got near Carroll's volume of passing. The nearest midfielder was Eric Dier (49).

8 Tackles: The midfielder made more tackles than any of his teammates. The closest were Eric Dier and Erik Lamela whose four each combined matched Carroll's.

1 Interception: This was less to shout about, with Carroll eclipsed in this area by Dele Alli (3).

1 Shot: Carroll had one shot at goal but it landed off target. Andros Townsend was the only starting midfielder not to make an attempt.

0 Key Passes: Despite Carroll's 89 passes, not one of them created a goalscoring opportunity. This is the biggest drawback to his performance, while he was heavily involved, was it in the right area to make enough of an impression?
