Nottingham Forest recorded their second away victory in four days, following up their 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Tuesday night.
In the end, it was Dexter Blackstock's three-yard tap in, following some excellent wing play from Jamie Ward, that was the difference between the two sides as Forest moved up to eighth in the Championship, with 11 points from seven games.
And former Nottingham Forest favourite David Johnson took to Twitter after the game to praise the defensive efforts of the Tricky Trees and emphasised the importance of Eric Lichaj and Henri Lansbury's performances.
What a fantastic defensive team performance. Every player deserves credit. Lichaj & Landsbury outstanding #Nffc— JOHNO (@davidaj09) September 15, 2015
Can Forest win promotion this season?
Although it is still early in the Championship season, the positives from Forest far outweigh the negatives as they continue to build confidence with every passing game. Dougie Freedman has seemingly been able to bring the group of players at the City Ground closer together and, with quality players like Lansbury and Lichaj at his disposal, build a side that looks a good bet for promotion, even if only under the cliche 'dark horse' tag.
Promotion favourites Middlesbrough at the City Ground is the next challenge for Freedman as he looks to see how his side fares against one of the best, if not the best, team in the division.
Following their 3-1 win over Brentford, the Middlesbrough attack will undoubtedly provide a good test for the Forest defence, which was praised by Johnson, while their solidarity in defence, which played a huge part in their play-off finish last season, will test the Reds' attack.
If Freedman can mastermind a result against Boro, then, supporters could be forgiven for dreaming about a top-six finish.
