Leicester City midfielder Dean Hammond is a loan target for Sheffield United, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
The summer arrivals of Gokhan Inler and N'Golo Kante have increased competition for places in Leicester's midfield, making it harder for Hammond to break into the side.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion man has made just one appearance, in the Capital One Cup win at Bury, and a number of Football League clubs are monitoring his situation at the King Power Stadium now that the loan window is open.
Sheffield United are understood to be leading the chase for Hammond, with Blades boss Nigel Adkins a big fan of the midfielder having worked with him during his time in charge of Southampton.
The League One club are thought to have made a firm enquiry to Leicester for Hammond, but have so far been unable to agree a deal.
Hammond, who joined Leicester from Southampton in the summer of 2013, is entering the final year of his current deal at Leicester and his experience, having won promotion twice with the Foxes and Southampton, makes him an attractive proposition to sides looking to bolster their ranks with loan recruits.
