Newcastle United have sent their summer signing a birthday message with a not-so-subtle reference to his habit of collecting bookings.
Newcastle United’s official Twitter account has wished their striker Aleksandar Mitrovic a happy 21st birthday…but they also appeared to include a reference to the Serbian international’s habit of collecting yellow and red cards.
Mitrovic signed for Newcastle from Belgian club Anderlecht during the summer and while scoring regularly he also came with a poor disciplinary record having collected 35 yellow cards and four red ones in his short career.
Since arriving at St James’ Park, Mitrovic has been booked twice and sent off once in just five appearances and he is going to have to work on his temperament if he wants to become the Newcastle great some feel he has the potential to be.
It is very early days and he was always going to take time to settle in a new league and a new country, but Mitrovic’s ability in front of goal is undeniable; he just needs to rein in his temper and focus on adding to the 68 club goals he has already scored elsewhere.
At least Newcastle’s social media team appear to see the funny side, writing the following message on Twitter on Tuesday: “Happy 21st birthday to Aleksandar Mitrovic. He’s had lot of cards…”
He certainly has, but hopefully by the end of the season he will have lots of goals for Newcastle, too.
