Manchester City fans react on Twitter to Juventus defeat

City's Champions League campaign got off to a disappointing start last night, with Samir Nasri and Raheem Sterling receiving criticism.

Manchester City’s rotten luck in the Champions League continued last night with a 2-1 home defeat to last season's runners up Juventus.

City performed well for large spells of the game but were less clinical in front of goal than their Italian counterparts and paid the price. A Giorgio Chiellini own goal gave Manchester City the lead in the 57th minute, with the Italian heading into his own net under pressure from Vincent Kompany.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men had chances to give themselves breathing space, most notably when the evergreen Gianluigi Buffon produced a sublime double save to deny first Raheem Sterling and then David Silva.

But City were left to rue their misses when Mario Mandzukic expertly tucked away a fantastic Paul Pogba cross to square things up in the 70th minute.

Alvaro Morata heaped further misery on the hapless Premier League leaders after expertly freeing up space outside the box before curling a precise left-footed drive past Joe Hart with nine minutes remaining.

The defeat is a blow for Pellegrini’s side but with Sevilla and Borussia Mönchengladbach making up the rest of the group, Mancehster City should still be confident of progression. Some City fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, while others called for a touch of perspective:
