Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Raheem Sterling's Manchester City performance

Liverpool fans took to social media to criticise Raheem Sterling's display for Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling underwhelmed as Manchester City slipped to a home defeat in the Champions League to Juventus.

After a 100 per cent start to the season in the Premier League, City's loss had an echo of similarity to previous Champions League campaigns getting off to poor starts.

Sterling himself had a disappointing season in the competition for Liverpool a year ago, knocked out at the group stages.

He signed for City in the summer for £49 million, and would have hoped to make a major impact on the big stage at The Etihad.

Sterling played 70 minutes of the 2-1 defeat, having missed two opportunities to beat Gianluigi Buffon in the Juventus goal.

His wastefulness prompted comments from watching Liverpool fans, who suggested he has not improved from the player who failed to raise his game in similar circumstances in 2014/15.

Sterling also did not create a single chance, recording a pass completion of 81 per cent.

In his defence, the quality of the opposition and the goalkeeper made it difficult for any City player to shine, lacking star striker Sergio Aguero.

Sterling is still settling into playing on the big stage, and will have better nights. For City's sake of progression this season, they will hope they come sooner rather than later.

Here is a look at what Liverpool fans had to say about his display...
