The left-back suffered a horrifying leg break against PSV Eindhoven last night.
Manchester United had a fairly bad day at the office last night. If defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League was not bad enough, then the loss of one of their star players so far this season will not have helped.
Luke Shaw has been in great form this campaign and looked to have established himself in the Manchester United first-team.
However he now looks set for a lengthy absence from the first-team after what looked to be a horrific injury.
He was tackled hard when going through on goal by Mexican defender Hector Moreno, in a challenge that was criticised by many, and appeared to suffer a fairly serious fracture to his leg.
Moreno himself will know how Shaw feels. He suffered a terrible injury of his own at the World Cup in 2014, when making a last-ditch challenge on Arjen Robben.
There have been plenty of well-wishers on Twitter, but perhaps none bigger than Gareth Bale.
The Welshman, who like Shaw is a Southampton youth-team graduate, sent him this Tweet last night – wishing him a speedy recovery from the injury problem:
@LukeShaw23 speedy recovery mate, come back stronger!!— Gareth Bale (@GarethBale11) September 15, 2015
The injury however looks certain to rule out Shaw until at least the New Year, but his season certainly looks like it could be over.
With a European Championships coming up in which he appeared a shoe-in for a call-up, this injury could not have come as a worse time for the in-form left-back.
