The Magpies lost 2-0 at Upton Park last night and stay rooted to the foot of the table.
Last night saw Newcastle succumb to their third defeat in their first five Premier League games to leave them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.
A rampant West Ham side simply had too much for Steve McClaren’s men and the manner in which his team capitulated will be a concern.
The Magpies lacked invention and a number of their ‘big names’ failed to deliver. Papisse Cisse was ineffective, barely troubling the Hammers confident rearguard, while Moussa Sissoko seems to be going through another of his disinterested spells.
Hopes were high at the start of the season after a summer of high-profile signings, but last night’s showing begs the question of whether it was money well spent.
Geoginio Wijnaldum is unequivocably a good addition and toiled hard despite not having his most creative game.
Florian Thauvin however, had a disastorous night and seemed to be trying to do his best Remy Cabella impression.
The pace and directness he was lauded for in France apparently went missing and he struggled to threaten in the slightest before being withdrawn for Ayoze Perez in the 60th minute.
The Toon Army were less than pleased with his display and took to Twitter to vent their frustrations and offer McClaren some friendly advice:
Everyone can settle down about our new superstar Thauvin too, reminds me of a a certain Cabella. Empty performance. #NUFC— Scott Lavery (@ScottLavery) September 14, 2015
Was really disappointed with Thauvin tonight showed absolutely nothing closely followed by Cisse Sissoko and Colback #nufc— Robert (@Robertonufc) September 14, 2015
Thauvin needs more confidence on the left, passing it to Haidara will get it no further than the first man. Cut inside and have a go #NUFC— Nick Simpson (@NickSimpson96) September 14, 2015
remember when thauvin was class.... against northampton— Carlton Barrass (@CarltonBarrass) September 14, 2015
Thauvin showed why he was voted in worst team of the year in France last year# poor— andrew l (@lonna10) September 14, 2015
Thauvin played 2 games, one when we had 10 men for nearly the whole match and he's labeled a bad signing already! Haha. #NUFC— Brian Parkin (@BrianNUFC) September 14, 2015
Also, maybe Thauvin's level is league 2. Only match he's done anything so far.— Rob Moyer (@yanknufc) September 14, 2015
Why did Newcastle sign Thauvin? Why not develop a promising young English talent like Aarons? Just baffling.— S (@_invertedwinger) September 14, 2015
