Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested in The Sun that people should not get carried away with Anthony Martial’s dream debut for Manchester United on Saturday evening.
Teenage forward Martial started his Premier League career in sensational style, scoring a wonderful goal against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old France international came on as a substitute for Spain international attacking midfielder Juan Mata in the 65th minute.
With four minutes of normal time remaining, Martial found the target from close range after cutting inside from the left after a brilliant run.
Martial, who joined United from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco on transfer deadline day, is a brilliant talent, and he showed that on Saturday evening.
Although former Arsenal striker Wright was impressed with the performance of the teenager, he has written in The Sun that it is too early to say how great a player he will become in the future.
“It was a fantastic goal and, coming on his debut, an unbelievable one,” the former England international wrote in The Sun.
“Clearly there is a long, long way to go before any sort of serious judgement can be formed. But as starting points go, it wasn’t half a decent effort.”
United are back in action on Tuesday evening when they take on Dutch giants PSV away from home in the Netherlands in the Champions League Group B.
