Diego Fabbrini has impressed early this season for Middlesbrough.

Diego Fabbrini has caught the eye of former boss Ian Holloway this season with his performances at Middlesbrough.

Holloway told SkySports that Fabbrini has impressed him early on this campaign, believing he can go on to be a star for the club.

He said: "Diego Fabbrini, a lad I know well. I had him at Millwall, he's a wonderfully eye-catching footballer. Defensively he is still learning, but if he can develop that side of his game he'll be a real asset."

Fabbrini, 25, is on loan from Premier League new boys Watford for the season, and has already scored twice this campaign for his new side in four Championship starts.

He looks already like a better player that the one who spent a couple of months on loan at Birmingham City at the end of last season, and played 83 minutes in the 2-0 weekend win over MK Dons.

Fabbrini is having to cope with high expectations, with the Evening Gazette reporting how teammate Albert Adomah is already calling him 'Boro's Maradona.

He has been on the fringes at Watford since signing in 2013, but has a real chance at present to become a regular at Middlesbrough and early on the signs are encouraging.

Holloway went onto predict Middlesbrough will beat Brentford in tonight's Championship game 3-0.
