While analysing West Ham's comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, Neville was left purring about Payet's performance, which saw him score both goals on the night.
The Frenchman was at the heart of everything good the Hammers did, and Neville saw a likeness in his relentless approach to that of Tevez.
"Because of the size and stature of him, he's like Tevez," Neville stated. "He's bull like. Big strong thighs, and good upper body strength. He's always involved in the game and I think that, for me, watching him tonight he was really good.
"Not just because of his skill, but he works hard and he plays, almost like, street football. He fully deserved man of the match and West Ham have bought a good player there."
Tevez, himself, has written himself into West Ham folklore after the one season he spent at Upton Park back in 2006-2007, which culminated in him scoring the goal which kept the London side in the Premier League.
Since the Argentine has gone on to develop a reputation as one of the finest strikers in world football, and has represented the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus in his career.
For Payet to be drawing such comparisons shows how well he has started at West Ham, and he is rapidly on his way to becoming a fans' favourite with the club.
The Frenchman's wonderful skill and willingness to take players on make him standout, and he has already managed to accumulate three goals in his first five appearances for the Hammers.
