The Hammers registered their home first win of the season, as they defeated Newcastle 2-0 in the Premier League encounter.
Dimitri Payet was the star of the show at the Boleyn Ground, as the France attacking midfielder scored both the goals.
The 28-year-old opened the scoring after just nine minutes when he curled the ball past Tim Krul from the edge of the area after Mark Noble's low cross from the left wing.
The former Marseille star added a second just three minutes into the second half when he slammed the home ball from inside the Newcastle penalty box after Victor Moses had hit the crossbar following a fine run.
Former Tottenham striker Lineker was following the game, and he was impressed with West Ham’s overall display and their first goal.
Absolutely fabulous goal for West Ham. Delightful buildup play and finished exquisitely by Payet.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) September 14, 2015
Slaven Bilic has got himself a decent team here. Happy Hammers!— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) September 14, 2015
Leeds United striker Chris Wood was also watching the match, and he, too, was impressed with Payet’s opening goal.
Former West Ham winger Matthew Etherington also had his say on the performance of Slaven Bilic’s side on Twitter:
What a finish that is from Payet! Great composure from Nobes as well. #COYI父— Matthew Etherington (@mattyethers) September 14, 2015
Brilliant from Moses, frightening pace and skill. Great finish again from Payet. Told you Moses would be a very good signing #COYI父— Matthew Etherington (@mattyethers) September 14, 2015
