HITC Sport understands Bolton Wanderers are ready to rival MK Dons to sign former Cardiff City striker agent Nicky Maynard.
Maynard is looking for a new club after seeing out his contract at Cardiff City earlier this summer.
The 28-year-old endured a frustrating three-year spell at Cardiff after his arrival from West Ham in the summer of 2012 and never living up to expectations.
The striker enjoyed a successful spell out on loan at Wigan under Uwe Rosler last year, scoring four goals in 11 starts, while last season for Cardiff he made only 10 appearances, scoring one goal.
Maynard has been training with MK Dons and Dons boss Karl Robinson has admitted he is keen to offer the former Bristol City and Crewe striker a deal.
"We'd like to do a deal with Nicky Maynard," Robinson told the Milton Keynes Citizen.
"It's now his decision - or his agent's decision. We've spoken to his agent, and we'll have to wait and see what comes back.
"We spoke to him on Thursday, so hopefully we'll get a response today (Monday). Maybe he'll go and find something else instead."
However, HITC Sport understands Bolton are also weighing up a move for Maynard with Neil Lennon keen to bolster his attacking options.
