Alan Shearer's damning indictment of Papiss Cisse as Florian Thauvin also comes in for criticism

The former Newcastle United player has not held back after watching the Magpies lose 2-0 to West Ham United.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has been speaking to beIN Sports about the contribution of Magpies striker Papiss Cisse on Monday evening.

Newcastle lost 2-0 to West Ham United, with Cisse failing to have any significant impact on the match, and in comments later published by Chronicle Live, Shearer was damning in his assessment of the 30-year-old.

“I looked at Cisse and thought Newcastle would have been better with 10 men,” the pundit said. “And it’s not just Cisse, (Florian) Thauvin showed nothing.”

The latter had previously impressed since his summer signing but against West Ham Thauvin was unable to make the difference, as was Cisse in the absence of the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The result left Newcastle bottom of the Premier League with five matches played and manager Steve McClaren has to change things quickly or risk losing support having only recently arrived at St James’ Park.

Newcastle made some good signings in the transfer window and Thauvin will go on to be an important player for them, but Cisse’s one goal in five appearances is not good enough and when he does not even pull his weight something has to give.
