Tottenham can still improve despite Sunderland win says Hugo Lloris

The goalkeeper believes the side's spirit is key to them getting results this season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris says the side can still improve with the ball after their defeat of Sunderland.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side had endured a winless start to the campaign before their 1-0 victory at the Stadium of Light, with Harry Kane continuing to struggle to break his goal drought.

The side have been lacking a cutting edge so far, with the failure to sign another striker, despite Clinton N’Jie and Son Heung-Min both joining, being a particular bone of contention.

And Lloris says they can still improve although their spirit in the side is key to them getting results.

“With the ball, we can improve a lot, but we were better without the ball,” he told tottenhamhotspur.com.

“The spirit was great, we were aggressive and we won a lot of challenges, that’s important in football and especially in the Premier League. The spirit is the key if you want to get results.”

"It was so important to win the game"

The French keeper’ also believes that it was important they win the game against Dick Advocaat’s side after such a frustrating start to the season.

After losing on the opening day against Manchester United, they had surrendered leads to both Stoke and Leicester, while also failing to take advantage of a number of chances against Everton in a game they dominated.

They had come under pressure from an expectant fan base after their start, and Lloris says the result has taken away some of that pressure but they must continue in the same way.

“It was so important to win the game,” he added.

We needed three points to get confidence. We were a bit under pressure before this game, so now we can enjoy this first win but we need to continue in the same way.”
