Portuguese striker nets twice in match Tottenham reportedly sent scouts to

Tottenham Hotspur scouts allegedly watched as Hugo Vieira scored a brace in the Belgrade derby at the weekend.

According to a recent report from website fudbal.hotsport Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was sending scouts to the weekend clash between Red Star Belgrade and Partizan Belgrade in Serbia.

The report suggested a number of young players Tottenham may be keeping an eye on, including teenage strikers Luka Jovic and Ivan Saponjic, but it was another forward who caught the eye on the day.

Red Star won 3-1 to open up a seven-point gap at the top of the Super Liga table with just nine matches played, and they had striker Hugo Vieira to thank for that.

The 27-year-old only arrived at Red Star this summer, moving from Russian club Torpedo Moscow, and he has already scored three goals and provided one assist in just seven appearances for his new team.

Something of a journeyman, Vieira’s best form came at Portuguese club Gil Vicente, where he scored 32 times in 101 matches, but it seems he could be about to start a successful new chapter in Serbia.

Tottenham are unlikely to move for him given his age, his contract situation and the fact that there are sure to be younger talents Pochettino and head of recruitment Paul Mitchell would have been keeping an eye on.

But on this occasion it was a more experienced player who stole the headlines rather than the promising youngsters that continue to come out of Serbia right now.
