Fabio Borini made his return for Sunderland at the weekend, but was unable to help his side avoid a 1-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian signed for the Black Cats from Liverpool shortly before the transfer deadline, rejoining a side he spent a season on loan with in 2013/14.
With Liverpool losing at the weekend away to Manchester United, fans watched on with interest to see how Borini got on.
Be ironic if FSG used the Borini money, from a failed Rodgers signing to terminate his contract and sack Brendan.— Indigo (@IndigoLFC) September 13, 2015
He was handed a start against Spurs, and took just 21 minutes to get booked, but looked lively in his attempts give his side a spark.
Borini found himself played in a wide role, and was unable to land a shot at goal, and add to the 10 strikes he netted for Sunderland previously in all competitions.
At Liverpool he had struggled to make an impact, but was also not entrusted to a starting spot on a regular basis during his three years at the club, despite being an early signing of Brendan Rodgers.
Many Liverpool fans are frustrated with their current boss, and are of the feeling that he did not give Borini a fair crack.
The reaction to his display, compared to the performance they digested at Old Trafford 24 hours earlier, was positive. Here is a look at what Reds fans had to say via Twitter...
Would love Borini to put one away against spurs. Just rub Rogers face in it haha #LFC— Cameron Eland (@Eland91) September 13, 2015
