One ex-pro has had his say on the Manchester United stopper.
The Spanish international looked destined to swap Old Trafford for the Bernabeu this summer but after a deadline-day move to Real Madrid fell through the 24-year-old has now signed a new four-year deal at united.
On the face of it that is great news for Louis van Gaal’s club and their fans, but Sinclair believes that does not mean De Gea will see out his new deal.
Speaking to the BBC on Saturday afternoon, Sinclair said, “David de Gea will be at Real Madrid next season, if they still want him. But United fans might buy back into their ‘keeper now he’s signed that new contract.”
It is one way of looking at things: If De Gea had not signed a new deal and simply allowed his current one to run down, United fans would have watched him performing knowing he was heading for the door on a free transfer come July. But now on the face of it he has committed his future to the club and ensured that if he does move on, it will still be on his current club’s terms.
Of course everyone connected with United will be hoping De Gea remains for the next four years and many more after that, but only time will tell if Sinclair is proved right or wrong.
