Harry Kane and Kyle Walker were happy with the performance of Ryan Mason.
Tottenham Hotspur got their first win of the season today, grabbing a 1-0 triumph against basement club Sunderland at The Stadium of Light. It was a fairly uninspiring performance from Tottenham, who can count themselves lucky to have come away from the game, which was exceptionally dull for most parts, with a win.
In the end it was Ryan Mason who proved the hero. The England midfielder scored the winner late on, latching on to a great through ball from Erik Lamela, before dinking the ball beyond the oncoming Costel Pantilimon.
It was a good finish, but it was also a brave one. Mason went in hard and fast to beat the giant Romanian to the ball and whilst he might have scored, he did not come off unscathed.
He limped away after the incident, clearly struggling with an injury before having to be stretchered off to rapturous applause from the travelling support.
It was also appreciated by his team-mates. Both Harry Kane and Kyle Walker took to Twitter after the match and had kind words to say about their midfield team-mate:
It was not just the goal from Mason today. He was probably Tottenham’s best player throughout with some wonderful passing and excellent tackles thrown in as well. He deserved the winning goal and hopefully his injury is not as serious as it seems.
