Manchester United beat Liverpool 3-1 on Saturday evening.
Manchester United claimed bragging rights over their rivals Liverpool on Saturday evening with a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford.
After an insipid first half, the game sparked into life in the second period, with Daley Blind firing United in front from a cleverly taken free kick.
An ill-advised lunge from Joe Gomez on Ander Herrera then gave United a penalty shortly after, with Herrera picking himself up to smash an unstoppable penalty into the roof of the net.
The drama continued as Liverpool hitman Christian Benteke produced a remarkable bicycle kick to pull a goal back, but then the big story of the game unfolded.
Substitute Anthony Martial, a deadline day signing from Monaco, came on for his Old Trafford debut and made an immediate impact, dancing inside and outside Martin Skrtel before tucking the ball home - in front of the Stretford End - to score a stunning solo goal.
United's players took to Twitter after the game to air their thoughts, with many thanking the Old Trafford crowd for their superb support in this fierce rivalry.
Yet the focus was still on teenage forward Martial, with Ashley Young, Bastian Schweinsteiger and even Wayne Rooney all passing on messages of congratulations to the Frenchman, who humbly tweeted that he was happy with the win - choosing not to mention his goal.
