The former USA international spent two periods on loan at Everton in his career.
Everton continued their promising start to the new season with a thumping 3-1 victory over reigning champions Chelsea at Goodison Park. A perfect hat-trick from substitute Steven Naismith did the trick for The Toffees who are now up to sixth in the Premier League table.
One man who was left delighted with the result was former Everton player Landon Donovan. Donovan, who played in a similar position to Naismith, spent two spells on loan at Everton from LA Galaxy, becoming something of a cult hero at Goodison Park.
Nowadays the 157 cap USA international, who scored two goals in 22 appearances for Everton, is happily retired and he clearly enjoyed watching the Everton game yesterday. He took to Twitter and did little to hide his emotions, or emoticons:
Naismith will have been over the moon with his goals. The Scotland international was almost sold to Norwich City on transfer deadline day but despite his limitations he proved yet again yesterday just how important he can be for Everton when the more illustrious names are not hitting the back of the net.
