David Gold backs Andy Carroll for England recall

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll is on the verge of returning to first-team action.

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has predicted on social networking site Twitter that Andy Carroll will get a England call-up sooner rather than later.

Former Liverpool and Newcastle United striker Carroll has played just nine times for the England national team since his debut for The Three Lions in 2010.

A major reason for the 26-year-old’s lack of England caps in recent years has been his problem with injury, but he is now fully fit and on the verge of returning to first-team action.

Carroll could feature for West Ham against his former club Newcastle during Monday night’s Premier League game between the two sides at the Boleyn Ground.

West Ham co-chairman Gold seems to have faith in the striker and has backed him for a England recall soon.

Carroll is a decent striker when fit, and he will be determined to score goals regularly this season.
