The defender was thrown in at the deep end today and began to sink near the end.
Aston Villa threw away a 2-0 lead against Leicester City today as they were left dumbstruck after a terrific fightback from the East Midlands side.
Two terrific goals, one from Jack Grealish and the other from Carles Gil seemed to have Villa on their way to a comfortable win at the King Power Stadium.
But Villa capitulated. The defence went walkabouts and Villa fell apart. Goals from Ritchie De Laet, Jamie Vardy and then the winner from Nathan Dyer secured all three points for The Foxes.
Dyer’s goal was excellent, as he almost had his head taken off by Brad Guzan in the process, but his bravery paid dividends.
One man who would have enjoyed the game were it not for the final half hour was Joleon Lescott. It was the former West Brom man’s debut for the club and he performed well for most of the game. But he began to lose it near the end. His silly run caused the first goal and he begun to struggle, along with the rest of the team, as the wheels came off this performance.
It is fair to say that Villa’s fans were not convinced on Lescott’s performance and will hope to see more from the ex-England international…
Game changed when bacuna and lescott were fannying about and didn't clear it then bacuna squared up to vardy, riled the crowd up #avfc— Aidán Doherty (@_aidandoherty) September 13, 2015
In the build up to Leicester's first goal why didn't Lescott clear it? Thought his experience was meant to come in handy? #avfc— Callum Albrighton (@C_Albrighton) September 13, 2015
Gabby again did nothing Bacuna,Guzan made errors & poor defending from Lescott & Richards cost us. But still lots of positives #avfc— Villa Till I Die (@VillaTill) September 13, 2015
Tactics horribly wrong after we went 2-0 up and then Lescott and Bacuna started the self destruct ! #AVFC— Mr Joe AVFC (@ClaretBlueAVFC) September 13, 2015
Lescott gifted them the first... if that was Clark he'd be getting pelters. #avfc— Rob Jones (@UpTheAstonVilla) September 13, 2015
Not impressed with Lescott or Amavi today. Sanchez giving the ball away too much as well #avfc— Dale Birch⚡️ (@BattleBorn__) September 13, 2015
Didn't we sign lescott and Richards to add that experience to the back 4. But yet we've thrown away a 2 goal lead. More dropped points #avfc— Elliot Watkins (@Watkinss_e) September 13, 2015
This has turned in to an absolute shambles. Starts with Gil coming off, Lescott's needless mistake, two central midfielders hiding #AVFC— Conán Doherty (@ConanDoherty) September 13, 2015
Had Lescott just booted that out none of that would have happened. #AVFC— Drpunch (@Drpunch) September 13, 2015
Sometimes, the simplest of purchases can be the most effective. Lescott has been excellent. #avfc— LuisMiguelEchegaray (@lmechegaray) September 13, 2015
