Gary Lineker jokes about Chelsea's top flight future after Everton defeat

The former Everton star commented on Chelsea's form after their latest setback.

It is fair to say Chelsea’s season has not gone according to plan thus far, and despite the hopes of a fresh start after the international break things have instead gone from bad to worse.

Chelsea travelled to Goodison Park to face Everton with just four points from their first four matches, and the Toffees ensured it was a miserable afternoon for Jose Mourinho’s side, running out 3-1 winners courtesy of a Steven Naismith hat-trick.

Nemanja Matic replied for Chelsea but it was not enough, with Naismith scoring his third goal and restoring Everton’s two-goal advantage with just seven minutes of normal-time remaining.

After that striker, former Everton and Tottenham Hotspur player Gary Lineker took to Twitter to joke about Chelsea’s current situation.

“I still believe Chelsea will stay up,” the ex-England international joked, but the question is: How long will Mourinho remain in charge if this poor form continues.

After all, Chelsea have already lost to Manchester City, Crystal Palace and Everton, drawn with Swansea City and only narrowly defeated West Bromwich Albion after seeing John Terry sent off.
