Eric Dier says Tottenham fans won't be happy with him for this... but he's met Tony Adams 'a few times'

The Arsenal legend was involved in the Tottenham Hotspur defender's development.

Tottenham's Eric Dier admits fans at White Hart Lane won't be happy with him due to his relationship with an Arsenal icon, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Indeed, Dier says former Arsenal captain Tony Adams met with him 'quite a few times' as he progressed in his fledgling career.

And the Tottenham youngster is aware supporters might not take a liking to him learning from one of the Gunners' greatest players!

The 21-year-old is quoted as saying by the Mirror: "Tottenham fans might not be happy with me for this but I met Tony Adams quite a few times.

"I hope leadership [something discussed with Adams] is something I grow into more. It is something that comes naturally as you become more cemented in a team. I have only been here a year but hopefully I can become one."

Dier has so far taken any ambitions towards leadership into a new role in midfield. And so comfortable is the 21-year-old looking in the middle of the park for Tottenham that there is serious consideration of him as a midfielder in the long term.

That's certainly something Adams wasn't famous for at Arsenal, although it might have been borne out of Dier not necessarily being a first-choice centre-back.

He has proven himself indispensable to the Spurs side even though he isn't in his most natural position, though, and can be argued to be Tottenham's brightest spark during a dull start to their Premier League campaign.
