The Argentine was almost sold prior to the closing of the transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur are back in action after the international break from Sunday. They travel to Sunderland in what is, admittedly just four games in, currently a bottom of the table clash.
Spurs are still hunting for their first win of the season and will hope that some of their players bring back a winning mentality from international duty, even if the club tried to sell them before the transfer window shut.
Erik Lamela was heavily linked with a move back to Italy and then a deal to join Ligue 1 side Marseille seemed to be on the cusp of completion. However, Tottenham had failed in their numerous attempts to bring Saido Berahino to the club and therefore pulled the plug on any potential Lamela exit.
In the meanwhile Lamela has been on international duty with Argentina. He put in a great performance against Bolivia in a thumping 7-0 triumph but sat on the bench as Argentina drew 2-2 with Mexico.
He is now back with the club and showed his excitement ahead of the weekend fixture on Twitter earlier today.
For all of his troubles at Spurs one thing you can say for Lamela is that he has recently maintained a very positive attitude toward getting back into the first-team at the club.
With Christian Eriksen still out of action, he might just get a chance this weekend.
