The Liverpool legend says he had the chance join Tottenham Hotspur when he left the Reds this summer.

Friday night brought a very intriguing revelation indeed from Steven Gerrard.

Indeed, the Liverpool legend, as quoted by an extract from his new book in the Daily Mail, says Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wanted to sign him this summer.

The 35-year-old spent his whole career at Liverpool up until this year, when he swapped Anfield for Los Angeles. But it could have been very different.

Gerrard says he could never play against the Reds - and that a move to Spurs wouldn't provide enough of a buzz for the Kop icon.

But the initial Tottenham interest is telling. If the north London side really wanted the former Liverpool captain, would he have been a regular starter or a squad player? How would he have fit in at White Hart Lane considering Pochettino's dedication towards youth and high-pressing play?

Obviously, we'll now never know - but Spurs fans have got to talking on Twitter, anyway. Naturally - it's not every day a Liverpool legend is linked with a move to Tottenham.
