Tottenham Hotspur have been cited as a club interested in Assane Diousse, by Italian website Tuttomercatoweb.
Diousse belongs to Empoli, and has been a prominent figure for the Serie A side early this season.
Despite his young age of just 17-years-old, Diousse has become a starter for his club, who are winless after two games into the season.
The teenager has a contract until 2020, and Empoli have no desire to let him leave.
Club president Fabrizio Corsi was quizzed by Gazzetto dello Sport about interest from AC Milan and Tottenham in the midfielder, as reported Tuttomercatoweb.
He believes it is too soon for such speculation so early into Diousse's career, responding: "He is destined for a great career but let him grow."
Diousse hails from Senegal, and is a holding midfielder. He only made his full debut last month.
Empoli boss Marco Giampaolo was impressed with his display in the loss to AC Milan, reported by Football Italia to have stated to Sport Mediaset Premium after the game: "He isn’t even 18 yet, but has such character and quality. He was playing for the first time at San Siro and didn’t have any fear."
Corsi is right that a switch of countries to move to Spurs would be a gamble for him, having already cracked the first team of a side in one of Europe's top leagues. If he is destined for the top, a move will eventually happen, and he does not need to rush it.
Yet for Tottenham it is encouraging to know they continually have their eye on bright young talents from around the globe with a view to making a move when the time is right. If he carries on progressing over the next few months, he could yet become a mid-season signing for the club.
