Newcastle United are maintaining their interest in Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, according to The Chronicle.
The British newspaper claims that the Premier League outfit were monitoring the 23-year-old as a potential replacement for Papiss Cisse in the summer transfer window if the Senegal international striker left.
Hamburg were prepared to sell the striker for around £9 million, according to The Chronicle, but Newcastle believe that his value is less than that.
Although Cisse is still part of Steve McClaren’s squad, the Magpies could reportedly make a move for Lasogga in the January transfer window.
The Chronicle claims that Newcastle view the former Hertha Berlin striker as a player who could make an impact in the Premier League due to physical strength.
Lasogga scored four goals and created 14 chances in 26 Bundesliga appearances for Hamburg last season.
The German striker had a pass accuracy of 56% and a shot accuracy of 39%, and won 109 headers, 15 dribbles and one tackle.
So far this season, Lasogga has scored one goal and created two chances in three Bundesliga games for Hamburg.
