A look back at early Tottenham v Sunderland memories.
Before Tottenham visit Sunderland this weekend, how about a little bit of nostalgia?
Above is one of the earliest photographs of the a meeting between the two sides, taken in 1912.
The photo is at White Hart Lane, which was built in 1899: A stark reminder of the history of the stadium with Spurs set to leave their home in two seasons time.
The picture features the pre-game coin toss between the two sides, while below a section of the thousands of fans in attendance can be seen. They were left disappointed with the match finishing a dull 0-0.
The picture below was taken back in 1938 and features a Tottenham defender desperately trying to stop a Sunderland goal with his hand - Luis Suarez would be proud.
The first ever meeting between the two teams came back in 1899, with Sunderland winning in the FA Cup 2-1.
It is Tottenham Hotspur who boast the superior all time head to head record. Sunderland have emerged victorious on 37 times, to Tottenham's 47. A total of 30 matches have ended in draws.
