West Brom striker Anichebe will not be moving to Derby County.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, Paul Clement has refuted any possible loan move for Victor Anichebe of West Bromwich Albion, despite links suggesting Derby wanted to sign the forward.

When asked if Anichebe could be heading to the iPro Stadium, Clement replied: “He is not a target.”

The Birmingham Mail claimed yesterday that Anichebe was on the verge of moving to Clement’s side on a short-term deal now that the Football League loan window is open.

Clement is keen to bring a more physical striker to the club to provide an alternate option to his current set-up, but it does now not look like Anichebe is that man.

The 27-year-old has made just one appearance this season, playing 16 minutes of the opening weekend defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

He has since been on the bench for the following three Premier League games, as well as in the League Cup victory over Port Vale.

It is clear he is no longer in Tony Pulis’ plans for the season, and if he wants to play consistent football, a move to the Championship surely has to happen - but Derby will not be the team making a move for him.
