Former Tottenham and Chelsea head coach Andre-Villas Boas at Liverpool? Surely not...
The Portuguese boss announced his intent to quit Zenit St Petersburg at the end of this current season, reported SkySports despite having led the club to the Russian title last year.
He joined Zenit after being fired by Tottenham Hotspur, who had appointed him months after his dismissal from Chelsea.
Betfair price Andre Villas-Boas at 20/1 to become Liverpool boss if Brendan Rodgers is fired.
Manchester United follow at 33/1, and a surprise return to Tottenham Hotspur is 66/1.
La Liga giants Real Madrid are priced at 5/1 favourites to be his next job.
Villas-Boas was linked with Liverpool last December, prompting him to tell Portuguese channel TVI, as reported The Mail: "'I'm not the least interested in this. Returning to England is definitely not in my plans.
"I liked coaching in England, it was a positive experience, but negative things also happened."
He was mid-season at Zenit at that stage, and his situation has certainly changed, as as Brendan Rodgers' job security after a terrible end to last season, and he needs to avoid a second successive Premier League loss this weekend.
AVB is an ambitious coach and will have restored some of his confidence with his spell in Russia. He was known for being prickly with the media, and there are question marks whether he could cope with the pressure at Anfield.
Respected scout Tor Kristen Karlsen yesterday tweeted that Liverpool owners PSG are fans of Villas-Boas, adding intrigue to the situation.
AVB til Liverpool om Rodgers ikke leverer? Skal holde min mening for meg selv, men sterke indikasjoner på at FSG liker portugiseren— Tor-Kristian Karlsen (@tkkarlsen) September 10, 2015
SkyBet had earlier reported Villas-Boas' price to become next Liverpool boss at 50/1.
