Leeds United should raid West Ham for a loan deal, not Newcastle.
The Whites are keen to bring in another centre-back on a short-term deal to partner Sol Bamba in the heart of the defence, and Williamson looks like a wise choice. He is experienced in the Premier League and Football League, and has proven himself for a number of years, even if he was a poor performer last season.
However, there is another Premier League centre-back who is reportedly available for loan who would be a much better option for Uwe Rosler to sign.
Sky Sports have claimed that James Collins of West Ham has been placed on the market by Slaven Bilic, having seen his place in the Hammers team fall under threat due to the signing of Angelo Ogbonna, and Bilic’s preference to play Winston Reid and James Tomkins.
This means Collins has yet to appear in the Premier League this season, and only played games in the Europa League qualifying stages.
He has now been made available for loan, and Leeds should already be making moves for Collins if they truly want to sign a centre-back.
The 32-year-old has a wealth of Premier League experience, and could theoretically still be good enough for the Hammers if given a chance. Many top flight sides would want a player of his quality to call upon, and Leeds will struggle to find another option of his calibre.
Also, Collins is likely to be open to a move, due to his need to be playing consistently to stay in international consideration.
Wales are all-but qualified for Euro 2016, and Collins is a shoe-in for selection at centre-back. However, if he is forced to spend the whole season without playing, the chances of him making Wales’ first tournament since 1958 will diminish considerably.
Collins needs a move, and Leeds need a central defender, and if the Whites truly want a new player, then there is no better option than the West Ham United veteran.
