According to BBC Sport, United have opened talks with the Spain international goalkeeper regarding a new deal.
The former Atletico Madrid star’s current contract with the Red Devils runs out at the end of the season.
De Gea would have joined Spanish giants Real Madrid on transfer deadline day had there not been a delay with the paperwork, as reported by Sky Sports.

De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and was the best player for United for the past two years.
The Spaniard is the best goalkeeper on the Red Devils' books at the moment, and manager Louis van Gaal needs to reintegrate him into the squad.
