Speaking to the Standard, Etienne Capoue has admitted that Tottenham fans failed to get behind him when he was struggling, and has suggested that the support at Watford is far better.
The French midfielder said: “I don’t know whether the Tottenham crowd liked me. At Tottenham, they wait, testing you always. We always have to improve. Watford has different supporters. If you miss something in Watford they are behind you. The atmosphere in the stadium is very good. Watford fans are good fans.”
Whilst Spurs fans would always want to see their players performing well, they are known for failing to get behind players if they are struggling.
Capoue start his career at White Hart Lane in solid, if uninspiring form, and he never received the backing he needed to improve with the support of the crowd.
This is different to the experience Capoue has enjoyed at Vicarage Road so far this term, when the midfielder was lauded from the moment of his signing.
He has impressed with the Hornets, and although points have not been easy to pick up for the Hertfordshire club, Capoue believes that Watford fans are remaining behind their players.
This kind of positive attitude is sure to have the players performing every time they take to the field, and it certainly entices the players to try harder if they know they will not be criticised for making a mistake.
Capoue looks to be one of the signings of the season already, and with the Tottenham fans behind his departure from White Hart Lane, it appears as if they played a key role in the midfielder deciding to join Watford over the summer.
