West Brom, Crystal Palace and Stoke reportedly wanted to sign Cheikh N’Doye this summer.
Speaking to L’Equipe, former Premier League star Salif Diao claimed that three English sides wanted to sign Cheikh N’Doye of Angers, having fielded interest from Crystal Palace, West Brom and Stoke City.
Diao, his agent, said: “Some [teams] followed him for four to five years, but have never taken the plunge. Crystal Palace and Stoke City, West Bromwich were interested [this summer].”
N’Doye, 29, moved to Angers over the summer instead of moving to England, having impressed with US Creteil in Ligue 2.
The defensive midfielder is now in the top flight of French football, and has started the season in strong form, scoring two goals in four games for the Ligue 1 side.
N’Doye appears to have been a late bloomer with his development, with his current move the only time he has been playing in a top division, despite being 29-years-old. He also only recently made his debut for the Senegalese international team, playing in a 2-0 win over Namibia in the AFCON qualifiers.
Despite his lack of reputation, it is clear that N’Doye is a talented player, and Diao has claimed that his performances in France saw the three English teams want to sign him.
However, for whatever reason, a move to the Premier League did not come about, and N’Doye has instead been showing off his impressive abilities in the top flight of French football.
